Bluegrass bloodlines are stacked deep with show lines. We have also used top-tier hunting stock when the individual dog met the conformation requirements of the program. That combination gives us a genuine dual-purpose hound without turning Bluegrass into a hunting-first kennel.
Our breeding focus is show and companionship, and companionship is where we are deliberately taking the next generations. We want the structure to stand in a show ring, the intelligence to make a dog easy to live and work with, and the temperament to make that same dog a treasured member of the family.
Conformation
Structure is not decoration. Balance, sound movement, correct proportions and breed type give a dog the physical foundation to live well.
Intelligence
A Bluetick should be capable of thinking for itself, learning from people and adapting to the world around it.
Temperament
Companionship is the destination, so confidence, affection, stability and an ability to settle into family life matter every bit as much as appearance.
Ability has a place. It just does not set the destination.
The Bluetick is a hound, and we respect that history. Working stock can contribute drive, athleticism, instinct and durability. At Bluegrass, those traits are useful only when the dog carrying them also meets the structural and temperament standards we require.
That is how we preserve a capable, dual-purpose Bluetick while continuing to breed with the show ring and the family home in mind.
Every puppy is an individual.
We document puppies as they develop so we can compare the entire litter at the same stage. The colored evaluation cards are not sales graphics—they are records that help us study structure, balance, head, feet, topline and overall development across a litter.
